Well, I definitely do. I see it, I saw it earlier with my conservative friends through the censorship we experienced on the major social media platforms, Facebook and Twitter and then as we learned of multiple privacy violations I began to see my liberal, libertarian friends as well get very concerned about it but on the other hand even though at that level people don’t like it. On another level, Americans are addicted and people around the world are addicted to these smart devices. They’re okay with their technologies spying on them for a better experience without really fully thinking about back end of that, and how the special media companies have more power and how they manipulate us.
Well, I agree [that Twitter is made for nastiness]. That is the experience. It is not just the nastiness. It is the ignorance, further weaponized through anonymity, and then you compound that with selective censorship so people on the right who express these types of nasty and negative behavior—I’m not condoning that—they quickly get shut down. You tend to have more of that on the left. That really makes it very unpleasant. I personally for one pulled back on Twitter. It is uncomfortable to engage in that medium. On the other you feel everything you put in there is reflected back to you ten minutes later in advertising, so it is becoming more and more negative at least for people paying attention. The privacy violations is something our government could do something about but isn’t. It’s a self-fulfilling loop of increasingly negative experience for consumers.
