Case of toppled campaign sign: Defamation suit by Menlo Park councilwoman’s husband dismissed

A San Mateo County judge has put an end to the ongoing defamation lawsuit that sprung from a toppled campaign sign and the dropped cellphone found near it.

In her May 21 written ruling, Superior Court Judge Lisa Novak cited plaintiff John Woodell’s “willful destruction” of evidence central to the case — to wit, the phone’s data — as a key reason for dismissal.
