An Indian American businesswoman filed a lawsuit Feb. 18 against Fremont Bank, alleging that a former operations manager of the institution had stolen heirloom jewelry valued at more than $100,000 and identification documents from her safety deposit box.
“My entire life was in that safety deposit box,” Noopur Sethi, a resident of Fremont, Calif., told India-West. Wedding jewelry, which originally belonged to her grandmother, along with the traditional six gold spoons often given to Indian brides on their marriage day, were missing from the safe, she alleged, adding that the thief also stole identification documents, such as her daughters’ birth certificates, naturalization papers, and social security cards for Sethi and her husband Sanjay.
